Each month we feature a Chef of Chef Works®. If you’re a fan of Chef Works gear and are interested in being featured, email marketing@chefworks.ca. This month, Chef Heather Goodman, Chef Owner at Goodmans’ Fine Food, is our September Chef of Chef Works. Pictured above is Chef Heather in her Hartford Chef Coat.
Chef Works: Who was your greatest culinary influence?
Heather Goodman: Julia Child. I grew up watching her on public television. I love her story and that she’s self-taught. I also spent many hours watching the fledgling Food Network (this was the ‘90s) and found this very inspiring.
Chef Works: What is the most rewarding part about your job?
Heather Goodman: Developing new products for the counter. I like creating new items that I get to share with my customers. The creative process fuels me, and I get super excited about revealing new creations to customers. I also love dealing with my customers and hearing their feedback about the food and the store, getting their ideas for new items they’d like to see.
Chef Works: Your all-time favourite culinary tip…
Heather Goodman: Great knife skills. Period.

Chef Works: If you could cook for one person – alive, dead, historical, or fictional – who would it be and what would you cook for them?
Heather Goodman: Babette, from the movie “Babette’s Feast”. I would simply be her sous, and just like in the film, be part of whatever dishes she was creating. As a character, she inspires me as she has the same passion for cooking that I have. It’s not about a particular dish in this instance, it’s more about working alongside someone who would spend hours and hours making the finest dishes, from a place of generosity and creativity.
Chef Works: What’s something about you that would surprise people?
Heather Goodman: I’m obsessed with mountain biking and knitting.
Chef Works: What is the guilty pleasure food that you secretly enjoy?
Heather Goodman: Giant Reese’s peanut butter cups!
Chef Works: How does your culinary uniform make you feel?
Heather Goodman: Ready to work!
