With each passing year, chefs have stepped more and more out of the kitchen and into the spotlight. Expect that extra attention to be even more amplified in the new decade as they continue to be trendsetters in and out of their restaurants.
With the rise of social media and hospitality-specific television, people are turning to chefs for more than just food tips and recipes. They also want to know their views on social justice issues – whatever those may be.
So we’re asking chefs: “What do you stand for?”
Literally, chefs are on their feet for hours each day. But figuratively, many chefs are fighting the good fight when it comes to tackling some of the biggest issues facing the industry – whether that be discrimination, equal pay, paid family leave or mental health.
“More than ever, chefs have a voice and are making their opinions known on a wide range of topics,” said Jeff Berman, Chief Commercial Officer of Chef Works® Canada, Inc. “We want to use the space on our blog to give rise to that voice and provide them an additional forum. Chefs have valuable insight and important things to say about issues that impact us all. We want them to know that we’re listening and we care.”
“What do you stand for?” will be a monthly blog feature where chefs talk about issues that are important to them. This could be as far-reaching as national sustainability programs to something as personal as work-life balance.
“We’re excited to launch ‘What do you stand for’ in 2020 because a piece of Chef Works® is right there in the kitchen with these chefs,” said Nicola Ince, Marketing Manager for Chef Works® Canada. “More than just being a culinary apparel company, Chef Works® is ingrained in the culture of chefs. This brings us even closer into the community by helping to tell the stories that matter.”
Chef Works® gear goes everywhere with chefs – from the time they leave their homes to the time they end their shift. We want to know what’s important to chefs when they are wearing our gear – and when they’re not.”
